Chippers in a Jar

I know many of my posts lately have been of baked cookies. I understand that not all of us have the time to bake, so I wanted to share with you a D.I.Y. cookies in a mason jar that you can give away this holiday season. Then your recipient can make it at their own leisure. It’s also perfect for those last minute invites.

I was inspired to make these Chippers in a Jar by viewing Bakerella blog.

Bakrella’s instructions are as follows:

Contents of Mason Jar: (place the ingredients in the jar in this order)
1 1/3 cup all purpose flour, spooned into measuring cup & leveled
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup cooking oats
3/4 cup red and green m&ms or (other variations are peanut butter chips or mint chocolate chips)
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 – 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions in order to bake the cookies:
Stir all the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
1 slightly beaten egg
1/2 cup butter (melted slightly in the microwave)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Use the back of a large spoon to work it all together. You may even need to use your hands to get everything incorporated.
Then roll the cookie dough into 1 1/2 inch balls, place on a parchment covered baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven. I got about 26-28 cookies out of these.

Be sure to decorate your jar to your liking. I added some fabric to the top of the jar and tied it with a black ribbon. I created a label with the instructions and glued it onto the mason jar. Have fun with decorating these jars.

Alternatively you could also add a tag and ribbon to the jar as the ones I created below. These tags and stamps were purchased from The Paper Place

And you can write the instructions on the back.

Let me know how your Chippers in a Jar turn out.
