Curry Cabbage + Chickpea Soup

If you been following my blog, you have realized I love me some soup -so filling and comforting. Plus, always super easy to make.
One of my detox meals include this Curry, Cabbage and Chickpea Soup.

This soup contains cabbage, chickpeas, sweet potato, curry, cilantro and I added coconut milk and chili flakes on top!!

Joyous 10 Day Detox

The holidays are over and I needed a way to kickstart 2014 feeling refreshed and energized. Plus, I think I gained an easy 10 pounds over Christmas – way too much food and wine!
So I decided to start a detox. You may be thinking that a detox is not for you, but trust me when I say this detox is good for everyone. There is still a lot of food you can eat, just be sure to avoid all the “bad” stuff: alcohol, coffee, refined sugar, red meat, wheat. (I use the term “bad” loosely because all of the above-noted taste super good but in reality they are not good to eat as they cause inflammation to our bodies, which then lead to many health concerns. These items also make us feel tired and lethargic.

I am currently on a Joyous 10 Day Detox. I ordered the detox plan online. (I encourage you all to participate in the detox). The materials emailed include a shopping list, recipes, lists of foods to avoid, tips etc.
Joy will also answer any questions you have about the detox.

I should mention, I did the detox last year and I felt great.

I will be showing you some of the recipes I have been making while on the detox.

I made this Curry Quinoa Lentil Loaf. I love that you can make one loaf and it’s good for a dinner and lunch. It’s gluten-free and has lots of fibre.

Sunshine Juice

I have the perfect drink to wake you up!
Push aside the Tropicana in the fridge and make yourself a clean drink that will be sure to be packed with vitamins and nutrients. What’s great about this drink is that there is a slight kick of heat from the ginger and cayenne pepper.


1/2 cup of water
2 oranges (peeled)
2 mandarins (peeled)
1 lime (peeled)
Juice from half a lemon
Chunk of ginger
1/2 teaspoon of turmeric
3 dashes of cayenne pepper
1 tablespoons of organic honey

Place the above noted ingredients into a Vitamix blender or juicer. Blend away and pour in a glass!


Cocoa, Coconut, Goji Berry Chia Pudding

Healthy dessert alert!
So healthy you can eat it for breakfast, and you can make it in advance – which means more time for you!
I know you are all going to enjoy this clean eating creation.
Toppings are optional you can really add whatever you want to customize your taste buds that day.

1 can of coconut milk
1 banana
1/2 cup chia seeds
4 dates

2 tablespoons of cocoa nibs (optional)
2 tablespoons shredded coconut (optional)
2 tablespoons goji berries (optional)

Put coconut milk, banana and dates in a blender and blend until well combined.
Distribute mixture amongst 5 mini bowls and distribute evenly the chia seeds and stir together. Refrigerate overnight.
When ready to serve, distribute evenly the above-noted toppings over the 5 bowls.

Verde Smoothie

We should all be trying to pack more vitamins into our body in order to strengthen our immune system. It is important all year round, but most importantly in the winter months. Perfect way to accomplish that is my drinking lots of smoothies and juices. Preparing a smoothie or juice is also a great way to ensure that we are consuming our recommended servings of greens per day!

This Verde Smoothie will be sure to give you just that. The ingredients all contain essential vitamins, they are as follows:

Parsley– is the world’s most popular herb. Nutritional and many healing properties. Excellent source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin K, and a good source of iron and folate.

Spinach– excellent source of other antioxidant nutrients — including vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and manganese — also it’s a very good source of the antioxidant zinc and a good source of the antioxidant selenium

Mint– mint has a refreshing taste and helps freshen breath. Mint leaves also have many uses and are able to overcome some health problems such as: digestive issue, headaches, oral health and relieves muscle pain

Celery– antioxidant nutrients, including vitamin C, beta-carotene, and manganese

Apple– good source of fiber, including the soluble fiber pectin, and it’s also a good source of vitamin C

Spirulina– is a natural “algae” (cyanbacteria) powder that is incredible high in protein and nutrients, high in Chlorophyll, which helps remove toxins from the blood and boost the immune system, Omega 3-,6 and 9s


Ok, now how to create this vibrant green drink is by placing the following in your vitamix blender.

-1/2 a cup of water
-1 granny smith chopped and cored apple
-2 stalks of chopped celery
-1/2 a cup of coarsely chopped parsley
-15 mint leaves
-1 cup of spinach
-1 teaspoon of spirulina
-5 ice cubes

Place all of the above-noted ingredients in the order listed above. Blend on high. Once all blended you can pour the smoothie directly into a glass and enjoy. If you don’t like the foamy texture run the smoothie through a cheese cloth or fine mesh strainer and enjoy the juice!
